The Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand (ALAC) is a small organisation seeking big change.  It is the primary advisor on alcohol issues and policy to Government and public and community institutions, and plays a pivotal role in achieving social change in New Zealand.  ALAC aims to change the national attitude from one that accepts excessive drinking to one that expects responsible drinking.

Reporting directly to the Manager Strategy and Research, the Principal/Senior Advisor Policy is a member of a small team of policy, research and communications professionals working closely with ALAC programme and project managers and stakeholders. Key aspects of the role are to develop an annual policy programme to reflect ALAC’s Strategic Direction, to provide innovative thinking and a strong intellectual grasp of policy issues and to build synergy between policy, research and communications objectives.

The successful candidate will have:

·         Highly developed understanding and ability in all aspects of policy development and advice in the New Zealand context

·         Experience in providing policy advice at a senior level

·         Sound judgement and a good understanding of Government processes

·         Ability both to lead and work in project teams

·         Excellent written and oral communications skills
